Nut Flush Draw Shooting Star WPT

Played the 8-16 at Bay 101 while watching the World Poker Tour Shooting Star final table on closed circuit TV. I tried to get into the filming but didn't have any connections....

The 8-16 was a super tight game where high pairs were taking down a lot of pots. I played my usual wait and see game but this time only had about an hour of time. After bleeding off a couple rounds of blinds, I woke up with A-Q of spades in the big blind. A middle position tight player raised it and two others called. The flop came out 7-8-K with only two spades. I had my flush draw. I checked and the tight player bet with the one of the guys calling. I called. The turn was a 2 of....clubs! I checked, the other two guys bet and I called. Should I have bet first?

The river comes out a 4 of.....SPADES!!. Yes, I have a made nut flush. I bet it. After tanking for a couple minutes both of the other guys called and I took down a nice pot. Any comments?

Flush draws are very strong hands and I believe that alot of the lower limit players don't understand the strength of a flush draw after the flop. A flush draw on the flop comes in by the river 35% of the time. Your hand was very strong as you had the nut flush draw and one big overcard. The tight middle position player probably had a high pocket pair or big slick since he raised before the flop. Since the tight player was still in I would have checked after the turn as well. It's possible that he had a set of K's. If the player's were loose I would have probably check raised after the turn.
I would have bet as well if I made the nut flush on the river. If you check there was a possiblity of the other two checking as well which would have cost you an extra bet each.

Bruce: Thanks for the analysis. I'll take A-Q suited in the hole anytime, especially when I actually get the flush! Best of luck in your game.

After more thinking, here are some other scenario's.
1. AQs has enough equity in this type of game to 3-bet preflop, but if middle postiton caps and you lose someone then a call is ok. You're still in relatively good pos the rest of the hand.
Play it like you did after the flop. You could check raise the flop if still 4 handed when it got back to you. Check is good after the turn. Check raise the river.
2. Re-raise pre-flop to get the strength of everyone elses hands. Chances are a sizeable bet wouldn't have kept everyone in, then you could come out betting after the flop having the nut flush draw. If you were re-raised after the flop, then you're obviously up against a monster and then decide whether you're getting good odds to call. If odds are good check turn and bet or check raise the river.
